Blue canvas binder

I went to Staples, the stationery store down the street, and to Rite Aid and no one had any blue canvas binders. Sigh. I wonder why they phased them out. Instead, I wound up getting a black plastic binder (8.5" x 5.5") that I'm sure will peel apart in a few days' time, a bunch of college-ruled loose-leaf that looks like it's from the 70s, and some (this I'm actually kind of excited about) clear, non-colored tab dividers with gold reinforced edges. Also I got Hawaiian Punch juice boxes, three for 99 cents!

Do you remember those blue canvas three-ring binders we used to use in the 80s and 90s?

I've been looking for one, 6" x 9", but can't find them anywhere. When did they get phased out in favor of these nylon zipper contraptions?

Andre Leon Talley on knowledge (from mediabistrro):

"The one thing when you get to be older is, you wonder about the futility of knowledge -- when you die, the knowledge goes with you."

Amazing passage in Lee Tulloch's "Fabulous Nobodies"

From Chapter 1:
"Some people have no idea what fabulous is. Some people think fabulous is a sequined frock with plunging neckline they've seen on a deodorant commercial on television. They think fabulous is a maroon leather jacket with shoulder pads that go all the way to Ohio and a pair of baggy jeans with pockets down the legs. They think fabulous is a three-piece pinstripe suit from Brooks Brothers with matching red suspenders, tie, and pocket handkerchief. They think fabulous is a patchwork jacket with lambskin trim or a silk blouse with a pussy bow at the neck or a sweater with appliqued sailing boats all over it. Some people think sneakers with socks scrunched down over them are fabulous. Some people go for jackets with the sleeves pushed up past the elbow or lavender sweat shirts cut off at the midriff. It's deeply disturbing that people can get to be like this. They're sick."

Clinique's Comfort on Call relief cream

When this product arrived on our desks, Raakhee was like, "I can already tell I'm going to love this." And I was like, "I don't know." Mostly because I have a hard time with face creams that claim to be ultra-moisturizing -- even though I have dry skin, only certain ultra-moisturizers work on me (for example, I adore adore adore Clarins' climate-based line, especially the Hydra-Quench cream for cold climates -- totally changes the appearance of my skin overnight, blows my mind every time) but others just leave an oily goopy mess on my skin.

But then the cold started and the heat went on. And sleeping at night with the radiator on KILLS my eyelids -- they get really dry and irritated and red. Not pretty. When they're like this, I can't even use traditional eye creams because they sting, make my eyes water, which makes the eye cream run into my eyes, which makes my eyes red -- bad scene. So I went rummaging through my beauty trough and gave Clinique's Comfor On Call a whirl and it's AMAZING. No fragrance, no irritation, I bet I could stick it in my eye and it wouldn't irritate (not that I'd do that...), and the calming moisturizing effect is instant. Plus it comes in a matte white jar, points for aesthetics. And at only $39.50 a pop? What a steal.

Maxine gave me Guitar Hero for the DS. I'm not gonna lie, it's really fun, though I played through all the songs in a few hours...

It's probably because all I've had today is a large Diet Coke, a bag of popcorn, and five lollipops.

Tonight I was sitting next to Dawn from Danity Kane at the benefit

Obviously, since I am the WORST CELEBRITY SPOTTER EVER, I didn't know it was Dawn from Danity Kane of Making the Band -- a show I used to watch religiously every week. Anyway, we talked for like a minute, and I said to her, "You look so familiar, are you friends with Susan? Do you work in media?" She was lovely, but it wasn't until five minutes later that I realized who she was and by that time there was no graceful way to interject that into a conversation. Sigh.
