Yeah, I'm pretty sure if I were a teenager now, I'd be goth-lite slash emo.

This is something I think about a lot -- what it would be like being a teenager now. To be honest, I don't know if I'd be able to cut it. Whenever I see teenagers at shows, out and about and on tv and stuff, I can't even imagine how hard it must be to be 16 in this media environment. Plus, since I've always been pretty low-maintenance (to this day, I think I probably brush my hair maybe once a year), I don't know how I'd handle all the grooming and attention to stylistic detail. I'd probably try to be goth and and accidentally let on that I had preppy undertones or something. Social suicide. Really, though, to me it seems that a lot of what drives kids today into social groups is music, and considering my favorite music as a teenager were non-smiling angsty artists like Sinead O'Connor, the Pet Shop Boys, the Cure, new wave bands like New Order, and bands like Shakespears Sister (um, listen to WDRE much? Yeah, guilty), I'd probably be goth-lite by today's standards. Which I'm pretty happy with actually...
