When I was about 12 years old, I was obsessed with the J. Peterman catalog and I'd wait for it to drop through our mailslot every few months. I'd pore over the overblown poeticism of the descriptions and wondered exactly how magical the real garments must be. I never ordered anything, because, at the time $400 for a jacket was simply out of the question, especially for a 12-year old. Seinfeld did a fantastic parody of J. Peterman, where Elaine worked for years. And now it's a website -- who knew! Too bad you still can't see photos of the real product. Guess they'd lose their magic then.
